Walk the Camino de Santiago: A Journey of Discovery, Connection, and Inspiration
Day 1: Fly to Santiago & Travel to Sarria / Or Meet Us There
After a very short flight from Malaga to Sarria, your adventure begins as you arrive in Santiago and travel to the quaint town of Sarria, the starting point of your Camino journey. Nestled in the heart of Galicia, Sarria offers a charming introduction to the region with its historic architecture, cozy cafés, and the excitement of pilgrims beginning their trek. Spend the evening soaking in the atmosphere and preparing for the incredible journey ahead.
Day 2: Walk Sarria > Portomarín (22km)
Your first day of walking takes you through lush green countryside, shaded by ancient oaks and chestnuts. Follow peaceful trails dotted with stone farmhouses and medieval chapels. As you approach Portomarín, the Miño River stretches out before you, offering stunning views. Cross the bridge into this historic riverside town, known for its Romanesque church and vibrant plaza. Enjoy a well-deserved rest and the camaraderie of fellow pilgrims.
Day 3: Walk Portomarín > Palas de Rei (24km)
Today’s journey takes you through rolling hills and picturesque villages steeped in tradition. Pass by charming hórreos (grain stores) and pause to admire centuries-old Romanesque churches. The walk is a feast for the senses, with the fresh scent of eucalyptus and the sound of birdsong accompanying your steps. Arrive in Palas de Rei, a lively stop on the Camino where you can savor delicious Galician cuisine and relax in the welcoming atmosphere.
Day 4: Walk Palas de Rei > Arzúa (29km)
This is your longest and most rewarding day, as you traverse beautiful forest trails and cross ancient stone bridges over gentle streams. Walk through Melide, famous for its pulpo a la gallega (Galician-style octopus), and treat yourself to this local delicacy. The final stretch leads to Arzúa, a vibrant town known for its artisan cheeses and hospitable locals. Reflect on your journey so far as you unwind for the evening.
Day 5: Walk Arzúa > Rua (18km)
The penultimate day of your Camino is filled with a sense of anticipation. The landscape changes as you walk through peaceful woodlands and quiet hamlets, each step bringing you closer to Santiago. Arrive in the quaint village of Rua, where you can rest and share stories with fellow travelers. Feel the excitement building as you prepare for the final stretch.
Day 6: Walk Rua > Santiago de Compostela (21km)
This is the moment you’ve been waiting for. As you walk the final leg of the Camino, the majestic spires of Santiago’s cathedral come into view. Enter the city, filled with energy and emotion as pilgrims from all over the world converge to celebrate their journey. Stand in awe before the iconic cathedral, attend the Pilgrim’s Mass, and soak in the incredible sense of achievement. Santiago welcomes you with open arms and memories that will last a lifetime.
